But look, I’m not some two-bit fuck who fucks up and then expects some other fucknut to clean up his fucking mess. A man’s got to take some responsibility or he’ll never amount to shit. I fucked my way into this, and by God, I’ll fuck my way out.
If you don’t like the word ‘fuck,’ you probably shouldn’t click this link, lest your fragile little mind be forever warped.
God bless The Onion.

Vista RC1: More Betterness!
Posted on Saturday, September 16, 2006 at 5:27 pm
The time has come, my little friends, to talk of other things: of shoes and ships and ceiling wax, of cabbages and kings.
Um, I don’t really know why I wrote that; it just sorta popped into my head for some reason. Anyway, Vista RC1 is released to the general public, and it’s a pretty damn good thing. Installing it is getting faster. It’s more compatible with hardware and software. And it’s got a lot of polish. This time around, after reading a lot of reviews, I did something relatively dangerous: I actually formatted my WinXP partition to install Vista as my sole OS. And thus far, I haven’t noticed a single reason to make me doubt that decision.
Every program I’ve tried throwing at it, it’s ran swimmingly. Even Photoshop, which gave me some issues on Beta 2. The Adobe Update Manager tends to not work very well, but who cares. As long as Photoshop itself runs, I’m good with it. I’m about to try getting Apache/PHP/MySQL up and running, which will be another big test since they wouldn’t work in Beta 2 either. The only hardware issue I had, was that it defaulted to the onboard sound card instead of my Audigy2, but this was easily fixed.
Windows Media Center, which has only lately become important to me since I’m going to be building myself a new homebrew PVR system in the next few weeks, is really good. Granted, I’m not sure how much it’s improved since Beta 2, since I’ve never actually ran it before now. But hey, I’m definitely liking what I see. I was actually wondering whether or not I ought to buy WinXP MCE 2005 to go with my new HTPC box, but now that I’ve seen Vista’s edition, I’m just gonna stick with that. I get to use my copy on up to 10 computers anyway, so why waste money on an OS that’s going to be obscelete come January anyway?
One of the best things that I’ve found in RC1 is the updated cursors. When you think about how Windows’ stock cursors haven’t been changed at all since Windows 95, you have to kind of wonder why not. But the cursors have now been updated to be all nice and smooth and alpha-blended. And the “Waiting” cursor is… well… it’s just beautiful. Hypnotic. Honestly, it makes me want to force the Waiting cursor to come up just so I can watch it. Sorry, I know this is a really little nitpicky thing to gush about, but hey, they’re brilliant. And it’s about damn time, too!
Also… Lisi still loves the Bubbles screensaver.
Ok, well, that’s about all I’ve got to say about it. If you haven’t tried it yet, I definitely recommend it. Go grab yourself a copy as soon as you can.

Kingdom Hearts is cool.

And I have no idea why. I mean, for one, I hate Disney. And for two, I hate Final Fantasy. And all Kingdom Hearts is, is a Disney/Final Fantasy mashup. But for some reason I really get a kick out of this game.
The first one was the first game I got for my PS2 – I’d asked for a PS2 for Christmas mostly for the purpose of eventually getting Twisted Metal Black and Devil May Cry, but I knew my family probably wouldn’t willingly get me a game with an “M” rating, so I asked for Kingdom Hearts just so I had something to play on the system. And it turns out that I actually really liked it. I think part of it is the fact that it’s a lot more real-time instead of turn-based like FF. And it’s just generally a lot of fun – there’s so many little missions and sub-quests to do other than actually beating the game, it’s quite a challenge. A lot more than a little kid’s game.
Then my wife bought me KH2 for my birthday, and I’ve been pretty much playing it every weekend, and some weeknights, whenever I get a chance and don’t have anything else to do. Amazingly enough, my wife actually gets into watching me play it, and lately she’s been helping me out by looking up the completion guide on GameFaqs and telling me where I need to be going to fill out the synthesis list materials. How cool is that? If y’all don’t have a wife who helps you with your games, and actually doesn’t yell at you for having the audacity to turn on the PS2, you should really think about getting one. Unless you’re a girl, I suppose. But, actually, I’m all for gay marriage, as long as both girls are hot. So even if you are a girl, you should think about getting a wife like that.
I was able to beat the game in roughly 40 hours at level 60. And by “beat,” I mean, “defeat the last boss and get to the credits screen.” Even after I accomplished that, though, there was still a ton of stuff to do. Because if you defeat the last boss after having totally completed everything in Jiminy’s Journal, you get to see the special KH3 trailer during the credits. So even after I beat it at level 60, I still had almost another 40 hours of finding and completing all the stuff I hadn’t already done. I’m now down to one single last task before I have 100% completion… I’m also at level 99 (the highest), and I think at last count I was at about 75 hours play time. The only thing I have left to do is the Hades Paradox Cup tournament, which is a whopping 50-round challenge wherein I generally get my ass handed to me on a plate for about 30 minutes. I’ve been working on this tournament all weekend, and so far I’ve been able to make it to round 37. So I’ve got quite a lot of practice left before I’m actually able to beat it. (And even after that, I’ve still gotta go beat the last boss again, though since I’m now 39 levels higher than I was the first time, it ought to be a lot easier.)
Anyhoo… um, yeah, I just hadn’t made a post in awhile, so I figured I’d post some praise for KH2, which is probably one of my favorite games despite the fact that its two material portions are things that I hate. It’s cute, it’s quite a challenge even if you are over the age of 10, and it’s generally a lot of fun. And by now, it’s probably getting close to the Platinum Hits rack, so you ought to be able to pick it up for about 20 bucks, which is well worth the 80+ hours of entertainment you’ll get out of it.
