I was working today on a very minimalistic forum script... I prolly won't ever use it here since I already bought (and love) UBB.Threads, of course, but a forum script is something I've always wanted to do just for my own experimental purposes.

Registration doesn't work at all. On the New Post screen, there are fields for username and password, but they don't work yet - it doesn't matter what you put in either of them, you can post topics no matter what you put there - because I haven't tied them to any authorization scheme yet. And several fields don't get updated correctly (dates, post counts, etc). But if you want to play with what I've got so far, go right ahead.
