so here is some of my recent supermacro insect work i have done. ---------------
well im out in the front yard and this praying mantis straight up starts sprinting at me. im like what in the eff... so i step a couple steps off to the side and he goes sprinting by and jumps onto a honey sucle plant.
now i havent seen a praying mantis in at least a year so im like HELL yes go get my cam!
luckily i was able to find him and i took some shots using my canon powershot a610 and the supermacro mod using a reversed 50mm canon fd lens.
i found a trick to add a good half inch of distance (now i can move my cam a tiny bit farther away but still be in focus) and this same trick also added a itsy bitsy bit of depth of field. too bad i didnt figure this out till after i already got most my shots and i coudlnt really take anymore. By this time the mantis was sort of swating at the lens and moving around too much.

i was expecting the mantis to have some form of a compound eye, but indeed they dont. make me curious how well their vision is.
--------------------------- This spider was AWESOME. He was a big fat wolf spider and was afraid of nothing, I was posted right in front of his face, im talking like <2inches.
so here is a shot to illustrate his size. i took the shot quickly so i ended up not focusing on the spider but focused on the lens instead. the lens in the image is the one that i then screwed on backwards to the front of my a610 to take the supermacro shot.
take a look at this bad boy!
only modifications i did to these images was brightness and a tad bit of noise removal because i was taking these up at iso400. then the resize and image border. other than that that is how the images turn out straight from the camera.
