Okay, I gotta put something here considering I am absolutely addicted to this game. I play on Phoenix server as an Elvaan named Artamaeus primarily as a White Mage.
Final Fantasy XI is the best MMORPG there is. Period. Star Wars Galaxies pulls a decent second, but this game is so beautifuly streamlined, and it is so very addicting.
I do have some qualms with it though, and I would like to mention the two things that bother me the most. First, the battle system is far too lopsided. You have to be right up on something while both you and the monster are not moving to hit the monster. If you move once or twice while casting a spell, the spell will be interrupted. However, if the monster wants to hit you, its gonna hit you. It could be chasing you across the map casting spells WHILE MOVING and keep hitting you all the way.
Second, when you die (not if, when) you will lose xp. You will lose a lot of xp. You may even lose that hard earned level you just got. I was playing with a guy just awhile ago that had just reached level 15 with his White Mage for the fifth time that day. Ridiculous. Maybe they should take your money or something. Whatever.
These are the only real issues I have with the game though, (not withstanding the issues that everyone has with every Final Fantasy...Final? HEH!) and I do recommend it if you are in need of something to pour your extra time and soul into.

are their summons in that game? I couldn't imagine how cool it would be if you couldnt  actually I could see it still being bad ass.
Plus how does it work... I don't understand how everyone could be diffrent like the others.

There are summons. I was wandering in La Thein the other day and saw an Ifrit. SO FREAKIN COOL. And how do you mean? If you're asking what I think you're asking, I think they explain it as there are multiple Ifrits, Carbunkles, etc.

I watched a friend play it... looked and felt too much like EQ... and as for the exp thing?
I lost and gained level 46, 68 times in EQ... so I dont' want to hear any complaining about this losing exp thing...
That's the way most MMORPGs are ;(
I play SWG now.

I got tired of SWG while it was in beta. I know I should give it another chance, but I'm just havin too much fun w/ a Final Fantasy MMORPG style. I have always really liked Final Fantasy.
As for the Everquest comment, I've only played a little EQ, and most of my time logged on EQ was the PS2 beta. I can kinda see why you would say that, but trust me, this game is soooooo much better than any version of EQ. If nothing else, its far more balanced. I haven't done the lost/gained lvl combo a WHOLE lot, but I've done it enough times I feel I have a right to complain. I just wish there was a better way.
As soon as I think of one (other than loss of gil), I'll post it.

World of Warcraft got cancelled.......................just jokin I think it comes out late 2004, but who cares I can finally almost get my grubby little mits on FFXI. It comes for PS2 in like a month.

If I wasn't so violently opposed to MMORPG games in general, World of Warcraft would kick ass just because it's made by Blizzard and anything they touch is gold.
