Bad mojo, people. Definitely bad mojo!<br /><br />It has been brought to my attention that someone took my game, and modified all (or most) of the copyright info to make it look like he wrote it. His installed copy is at [removed by jamin]. If you look at the copyright blurb at the bottom, you can see he's changed it. You can also go to the Credits section of Help, and he's changed most of that info too. The problem is, he seems to be kind of an idiot, because he forgot to change some parts that still reference the original game name.<br /><br />One of the admins on his site informed me about this, and she said she was going to talk to him. Hopefully he will see the error of his ways and remove his stolen copy. Otherwise I will probably email his host and see what I can do through that route.<br /><br />Now, of course I'm not suggesting that anyone should feel the need to go vigilante on him. But... *cough* his forums are located at [removed by jamin], and he was kind enough not to require registration for you to post on the forums. And that's all I'm going to say about that.<br /><br />---Jamin

Nice to meet you too.
Seems to me like he also did it with phpBB. Apparently, the guy is a complete idiot whose only "coding" ability involves sniffing out copyright notices and changing them to make himself look cool.

I don't have the resources to sue him. I'm just gonna mail his host and tell them about it, maybe they'll shut his account down. But mailing phpBB is a good idea too, tho since it's opensource they might not have any more resources than I do.

Hahaha. Good point. But most likely he's a 17 year old kid living out of his parents' basement, probably at this very moment jacking off to pictures of the girls from Star Trek Enterprise. I doubt I'd be able to get much.

Darn peeps, stealing someones ideas is simply wrong copy right or not. I say you wait x ammount of time, during which time send this screw a letter saying cease and desist. Im no lawyer but that sounds like reasonable move, under a copy right act you are authroised to do that.
Anywho some nice points were made, nice to meet yea all. BTWY I installed your mud on my server, very nice stuff http://24.102.5.48/dk/ I just luv putting stuff on my server :P

Small update on the asshole who stole DK:
Ok, so I finally made my way here, and found the time to register. Somehow, spring break, and doing nothing, means I'm too busy to do anything! :-)
Anyways, I'm the admin (now former admin) of the other game that this idiot owns that originally emailed Jamin about the copyright infringement. The whole story is.. well.. rather humorous, honestly. It started a few days ago. The Idiot caught me on MSN saying he had a surprise, that he'd made another game and was going to "give" it to another admin on the site as a gift for all his hard work. While playing around on it, I noticed the discrepancies in the copyrights from page to page, and commented on it to Super Dork. His story then changed from "I made a game" to "my friend and I coded it together." I decided to let it drop until I'd done more research. Later that day, the admin whose "gift" the site was IM'd me with the REAL game link and whatnot. We talked, agreed that our "boss" was a complete dickhead, and went to bed.
The next day, I confront The Asshole with the real link. He says that Jamin is his friend that coded 80% of the game. (note the new story) I express my disbelief and tell him that if his story is true, he won't mind me emailing Jamin and asking. Asshole remains nonplussed and says sure. I do so, and we drop the subject until I hear back, saying that when I DO hear back, one of us will have to apologise.
Later that day I hear back, and, obviously, Jamin doesn't know The Idiot at all. So I confront Asshole with that fact. Here's where it gets funny. He tries to firstly convince me that he really does know him simply by repeating it over and over and getting more and more pissed off. Then, after realising that's not going to work, he tries to say that Jamin wouldn't know him by the game I gave him.. but by these other two names (which I promptly emailed Jamin back with, just to satisfy Dumbass). He then also tries to tell me that, unless I used one particular email address (the same one Jamin has listed here), that it probably wasn't really Jamin that replied.
Realising THAT wouldn't work.. he then tried to turn the tables, saying it was ME who was lying. I'd mentioned that I had sent 2 emails, one from my school email address, and one from the dragons-legend email address given to me because I was an admin of that game. He said that I couldn't have done that because he "can see everything that goes through there"... and proceeded to try and bitch me out for lying to him.
So I forwarded him the email, which shows not only the originating address, but the time at which the email was sent.
With that accusation out of the way, he decided to try and rip apart my email, saying that I was lying when I mentioned him saying that he coded the game. His story now was that he ALWAYS had said that Jamin coded 80% of it.
So I looked through my Trillian logs, and showed him exactly where he said what he said. Accusation #2 out of the way.
After that, he gave in and tried to hurt me. How? By deleting my email account, deleting my character, and IP banning me from the game for 300 days. *chuckles* Actually, the text on the ban reads "Whoo, you proved me wrong, now get the fuck off my server!". And if that wasn't enough, he's now threatened to send his "leet cyber army of uber hax0rz" after me.
This coming from a 17 year old kid (yes, he really is 17) who had to steal a game (not DK, another one) to try and "hack" into Alienaa accounts... counting on the fact that people are creatures of habit, and will use the same email/pass combination.
I'm not worried.
Anyways.. as of now, the site is still up, I'm still banned, but The Dumbass forgot to ban me from the MB, too. *sighs and shakes head* What a Moron.

Unfortunatly the altered Dragon Knight is still up, but... Tom (the Idiot) is being forced to give up his internet access for a period of 2 years, and has "given" his original game (which still wasn't originally his) to another player. Considering myself and another admin on the site are packrats that despise Tom, we've kept every log of every conversation we've had with him, and there's some pretty incriminating things there (more with the other admin, though, as Tom was more open with him). Because of that, Tom actually was begging Rast (other admin) not to report him. Rast's terms for not reporting Tom were:
1) He, and all of the other admins remain admins under the new ownership, unless they do something to actually screw up the game.
2) Should the new owner act on his massive grudge he has for Rast and another admin and delete them or in any other way screw with their accounts... Rast would release his chat logs and all evidince incriminating Tom, and, coincidentally, the new owner as well.
3) I be allowed to return to the game, my account be reset to what it was, be given my powers back, and retain the title of "co-owner" with all rights and privledges that a true co-owner should have.
*grins* So... I'm back in the game... and considering myself and Rast pretty much have Tom and the new owner by the balls (what small ones they have)... we run the joint. Only problem... I'm an engineer turned geneticist (hopefully)... Rast is a construction supervisor.... the hell do we know about coding? And even then... that game is such a patchwork of crap, I don't know if anyone can really get all the bugs out.. *shrugs* I'm only there to be a thorn in Tom's side (just him knowing I have all powers back irks him)... and to piss off the new owner (Darran despises me completely.... *grins big*).
Though.. I did get to do something really fun when I came back...
"Admin Tifter was unmade by the gods."
I got to delete Tom. I've never had so much fun deleting someone in my life.

It's good that you got everything back. And good that you got the pleasure of deleting Tifter.
OOC, is the new owner going to be removing my game (or at least fixing the copyrights) any time soon?

No idea. I'd imagine not, though I will be constantly bitching at him about it, as will the rest of the admins on the game.
Here's something to consider... Tifter was 17... the new owner... Tifter's "best friend" (who happens to live in Canada, while Tifter is in the UK)... is a kid named Darran. And yes, I mean a kid. Darran's 13 years old. I don't think he has the ability to edit anything into the main game, much less try to do anything with yours, sad to say. I can ask, but... he doesn't like me too much. I kinda caused him to be perm deleted and banned (before that was so rudely happened to me) because I found out that he'd used his 1 hr of admin powers (before I, and the 3 other admins on the game, convinced Tifter that it wasn't a good idea to give him power) to get numerous passwords, including Tifter's, and royally screw up the game. For some reason, he thinks it's MY fault that he got caught.
Darran's not likely to listen to me whatsoever. *sighs* I will keep trying though... if not me, then Rast will also pressure him...
I'm sorry. :-(

Wow... never thought this thread would be revived.. :-) Glad it did, though.
Firstly... greetings and condolences to MightyE, Moonchilde and LoneStrider... Condolences for having to deal with the ass that is Tifter (Tom, Dork, Dumbass, Complete Fucking Asshole... etc)
Just a question.. have any of y'all been in "contact" with Tom recently? As in.. within the last month or two? Supposedly.... he's being removed from his comptuer for 2 years.. but *shrugs* after all the bullshit that I've had to deal with from him, I wouldn't be surprised if that was his way to simply dump everything and move on "cleanly."
I haven't seen hide nor hair of him in a goodly while.. and honestly, I'm not exactly displeased with that development. ("Hide nor hair"? Wow... can you tell I'm from Texas?). As stated above... I'm supposed to be hearing from his "team" as they try to completely ruin me (a la "The Net"). Nothing's happened so far... and I'm not surprised. *shrugs*
Anyways... the last thing I've heard from Tom's "version" of LoGD was that Darran was still in control, but had lost his owner powers when he killed the dragon. Without the password into the SQL or anything else, all he can have are normal admin powers. His friend Transfix left the game because he was pissing too many people off. The moment my boyfriend cracks Tom's password on the FTP site.... he's going to delete and ban every admin on the game, other than the select few he's chosen..... but.. that's probably never going to happen, as we're all losing interest. Say what you will about Tom... but he did make every day an adventure! "Hmm... how much shit will I have to wade through to get the one kernel of truth today!!??"
Bah.... I have bigger things to worry about.... which is why I'm babbling... Procrastination is a wonderful thing, no?
