Greetings and Salutations m'dear friends from DK. . . how do you fare within the chaotic realms of cyberspace? Lingering upon the edge of these technophased realities, I thought I should give a touch more information about track records. Seems this lad has discourteously abused the trust of artists and creators like some sort of habitual craving that rivals a heroin addict.

My name is Lonestrider and I'm one of the modders from LotGD (Legend of the Green Dragon). . . We've had problems from Tifter as well, but one could always hope that the lad would straighten his issues out instead of anxiously finding another group to screw over. . .

and

for some more background on this lovely example of human de-evolution.

Congrads upon your own game and don't let the bastards get you down.

May the elements keep you in their embrace.

*chuckle* seems you've encountered the same fellow I did. Tifter, aka, tom1wikked@hotmail.com, aka Tifter Wise decided it'd be cool to rip off the game I wrote too: http://lotgd.net . He's got an install of it up at [removed by jamin] which he finally put my name on. I had many long conversations with him over IM trying to get him to put my copyright information back on. He finally got it on the home page, but it's not on any of the sub pages, and he didn't keep the information in place that he's required to by the license regarding the fact that the game's released under the GPL.

I spent about 2 weeks "communicating" (in quotes because I wouldn't exactly call it communicating in the sense that any information successfully was received on his end) with him to just get this far. I stopped bothering for a while because I simply didn't have time to deal with this level of idiot, and at least he was no longer taking credit for it.

Having read about your troubles with the same fellow, I've decided to reopen whatever passes for lines of communication with him and persue this further. I don't know why I bother talking to him at all, perhaps I should just call his ISP and get them to strip the code out.

I don't think he has the ability to edit anything into the main game, much less try to do anything with yours, sad to say. I can ask, but... he doesn't like me too much. I kinda caused him to be perm deleted and banned (before that was so rudely happened to me) because I found out that he'd used his 1 hr of admin powers (before I, and the 3 other admins on the game, convinced Tifter that it wasn't a good idea to give him power) to get numerous passwords, including Tifter's, and royally screw up the game. For some reason, he thinks it's MY fault that he got caught. <br /><br />Darran's not likely to listen to me whatsoever. *sighs* I will keep trying though... if not me, then Rast will also pressure him... <br /><br />I'm sorry. :-(

I'd wager he's at least intelligent enough to remove the code outright. That's what is required if he can't edit the code to restore it to what it should be. Complete uninstall. In fact, given that he would have already violated your license and copyright law by removing your copyright information, you're well within your rights to demand that he take it down, and even sue for dillution of your product if you were so inclined.

MightyE,

Yeah, this guy seems to be pretty much an asshole. I like your definition of "communicating" with him too, seems about right. I've never had the pleasure of actually talking to him, but I can guess that's about what it would be like.

And as for suing him and stuff... I would, but I don't have the resources. I did email his hosts (or at least, I think they're his hosts, based on the info in his domain's whois result). That was a good long time ago, and nothing seems to have gotten accomplished with it.

My final decision was this: if he really feels he's that pathetic and in need of attention, let him do it. Sekhmet already told me that anyone who's anyone over there knows he didn't really write the games, so that's all the assurance I need. If stealing other people's work is how the guy makes himself feel special, let him have his fun now. Once he gets out into the "real world" and figures out that that sort of thing is frowned upon by those who write the paychecks, he'll learn his lesson fast, methinks.

Greetings Jamin,

I'm the co-developer of LotGD with MightyE (Eric).

We've definately dealt with Tifter in the past, and will probably go after him again. (I know you don't feel the need to do so on your own, and that's cool).

Would you believe he tried to convince me that he had a web hosting service he'd sell me for the low low price of $1000? Smiler
I asked him if he had a florida bridge to go with it.

I am hoping that another email (and if that doesn't work) a phone call to hostdepartment.com (his registrar) or worldispnetwork.com (apparently his ISP) will have some effect since talking with him hasn't worked in the past.

Having read about you folks, I decided to try to open my MightyE->Tifter monologue again. I used a feature we built in to LoGD called "Petition for Help" to ask Tifter when we'd get things working, and the response I got was from [removed by jamin], saying, "Tifter no longer has a readily available internet connection." Canadian went on to sound like a fairly reasonable person, email sans typeos, and sounding like he was interested in helping should he be able to.

Because Tifter's doesn't exactly land in the "smart guy" pigeon hole, I thought it'd be clever to look at the originating IP address for this email versus old emails I'd received from him. This was 24.215.22.189 which does actually resolve to a Canadian ISP. Tifter's IP's were 65.19.179.128 home and 80.46.219.248 server. His home IP is a Brittish ISP. So either he's got himself a proxy, he's moved and switched identities, or he has actually given the game to this other person.

As it stands now, I've no reason to *dis*believe this claim aside from my past history with Tifter, and knowing what a hard time he has with telling the truth.

Our friend Canadian mentioned that he's awaiting passwords from Tifter before he can do any administering, but if - as was mentioned elsewhere - Tifter won't have 'net access for 2 years, that's going to be a long time before Canadian can help in any meaningful manner. None the less, I'll proceed in good faith with Canadian and hopefully we can reach an amicable solution.

Darran (Canadian) is an... interesting kid. At 13 years of age, he can be both extremely immature and childish, and mature (sans typos). I don't particularly care for the child after the trouble he's put me through numerous times.

I could just be biased against him, though. He wasn't very well liked by the former admin crew, and his decision to make Transfix his co-owner (even for that short time) really made us dislike him even more.

I hope all of y'all are able to "come to an amicable solution" (sorry.. I like that phrase!) and things can get settled down.

I'm just wondering if Tom really is gone.. or if he's just sitting back and laughing. For some reason... I believe both. I think something he did came back to bite him in the ass, but at the same time.. it's not as serious as he makes it out to be. *shrugs* Eh... If I never talk to him again, it'll be too soon.

Well the links no longer work, the forum is still there though but the main domain, dragon-legend.com has got a big "This site has been shut down for nonpayment." post on the top. I guess so much for that site....

After a search ont he internet for "tifter", i came across this thread, wich i just hav to post in... Tifter is very much using his computr right now, and has been for quite a long while, he claims to own quite a fair few websites, including www.dome-host.net and www.easyline.org .. also he takes pride in his online game www.dark-warriors.net god knows if they are his or not, oh and to correct... he is 15, not 17. he lies way too much, and everything he lies abuot brings up suspicious questions, i know all of this becaue ive actually met him, he happens to live around the corner from my house. his antics are still very much alive, i know of quite a few things he is involved in...and yes... it includes forgery as always with tom
