i like the idea behind this game, but it lacks any kind of visuals.. i mean, i would interested in making all the graphics for different monsters and landscapes, but im not sure how easy that will be todo.

Can someone give me some insite into how possible/easy this is todo? i want to install it on mys ite but i need to be able to add graphics for almost everything.

Just off the top of my head, i would need graphics for...

Exploring page Map.
-I would make a bundle of graphics showing where the person is exactly on the map, not just showing the map. So when they are up north and to the east, the map is centered on they're location. I believe this would take quiet a few graphics, but im more then willing to do it.

Monsters
-i would need to make graphics for monsters when they attack you, the battle page is too bland without graphics. Possibly even have a different graphic when the monster is about to die and is all bloody and beaten up.

Cities
-simply put, a nice graphic should be present when you are in a town.

Over all, i hate games that arent visual, but im a visual kind of guy, and i really like the idea behind this game, but im not positive how able bodied it is to include graphics aswell as the regular functions.

The "easiness" depends on the type of graphics. I am no longer personally adding new features to DK, because I'm spending all my time working on Scourge. Therefore, you either do the graphics yourself, or talk someone else into doing it for you. Map graphics would be relatively easy if you have knowledge of PHP's image editing functions: take one standard map image, and have PHP draw a dot in the user's location. Monster graphics would be easy: 151 different images named {{monsterid}}.gif. Same with cities. Just add the image to the town/fight templates, and there you go.

Graphics have been discussed at length in various threads around here already (including one earlier today... reading back posts is a good thing...). A City graphic is slightly different, but monsters and exploring both fall under one overlying problem: the sheer amount of page views created by a game such as this means any graphics will dramatically increase the amount of bandwidth you use. If you are friends with someone who owns a server farm, and bandwidth is no object, you are more than welcome to use as many graphics as you like... but for those of us who actually do have b/w limits, there is a very good reason why graphics aren't there.

The basic answer is, if you want a visual game, go play FFXI. Or start sleeping with the owner of a datacenter. This is stripped down for a reason, and that's the way the official code is going to stay.

Why do you need tables for pictures? Just make a bunch of images called monsterid.gif (where you replace 'monsterid' with actual id numbers), and call the image in the fight template.

If you want images for different situations (monster attacks, monster gets hit, monster dies, monster orders a margarita at ye olde pub), make several directories full of images (/images/monsterattack/id.gif, /images/monsterdie/id.gif, et al) and add some logic to fight.php that picks which folder to call the image from before the display() call.
