Scourge is progressing nicely, and a couple people have already gotten access to the private Alpha 2 test. But there's a couple little things y'all can give me right now that will help a LOT.

The new engine has greatly improved support for items and monsters. Items can have prefixes and suffixes and there is support for literally tons of different types of modifier statistics (like HP leeching, adding magic/elemental damage to items, items giving you bonuses to strength, etc). For all intents and purposes, if it's possible to code a certain action, it's possible to give that action to an item. Likewise, monsters are now essentially hard-coded copies of actual players - they have fields for the exact same statistics that real players have. So anything that can be done to a player can be done to a monster. (That's why PVP is going to work so fluidly in Scourge - all the fight code is already done, we're just using two players to fight instead of one player and one monster.)

Now we come to the problem. With such great item/monster support, it would be a shame to waste it by only having a few items and monsters. There are so many possibilities for customizing individual items and monsters, I really want to have a huge list of stuff to work with. I've already got a list of 70ish base items (more than double what's in DK), and 200ish base monsters. And I've got two or three item modifiers coded just to test the engine and maybe ten or so more planned. But even what I've already got would only be scratching the surface of what's possible with this engine.

So here's where you come in. Give me names! Think up as many possible item and monster names as you can, and post them here. This includes base items ("Dagger") and base monsters ("Slime"), as well as prefixes ("Sharp") and suffixes ("of the Vampire") for items. And think of some cool Unique item/monster names ("The Godfather" or "Dracula"). Finally, think of cool things you'd like items to do - for example, Diablo 2's "Crushing Blow" modifier doubles the total amount of damage per hit (I think), and "HP Leech" takes X% of the damage you do and gives you back that many HP.

The sky is the limit, people. The more suggestions you give me, the better the game will be. Just to give you a starting place, there are five item types - Weapon, Armor, Helmet, Shield and Jewel (jewels don't have any damage/defense, they are just for giving you modifiers like the aforementioned HP Leech). And there are four base damage/defense types: Physical, Magic, Fire and Lightning. Give me any and all names and suggestions you can come up with.

For copyright/plagiarism reasons, don't just go to the strategy site for some other game and give me a list of items used by that game. The names don't necessarily have to be totally unique (like, every RPG on the planet probably uses a dagger or an axe or whatever), but don't just go steal lists of other games' items. If you need ideas, a good place to look is thesaurus.com - like, search for "sword" or "ghost" or whatever and it'll give you shit-tons of synonyms, so just pick out anything that sounds cool and add it to your list.

Alright, I'm done. Sorry for such a long post. I hope you made it this far. But, um, yeah... seriously... the more names, the better. Have at it, people. :)

I looked up jewels in the thesaurus, and all I was getting was different names for male genetalia.....but couldn't you use names like emerald, sapphire, citrine, ruby, diamond, pearl, amythyst, and opal....stuff like that?

Maybe if he was to take items and add slots in it, where you could add gems (another idea from D2)

Here is a nice list for you, straight from my brain, I'm also gonna add some notes to some of the weapons as suggestions to their purposes and attributes, and some ideas I think would be cool if they can be programmed:

Base Weapons

All base weapons do physical damage unless otherwise noted or modified by a jewel.

Blades:

Knife (Very Low damage, low dex bonus)
Dagger (Very Low damage, medium dex bonus, high def penalty)
Archer's Blade (Low damage, medium dex bonus, medium def penalty)
Short Sword (Medium damage, low dex bonus, low def penalty)
Gladius (Medium-high damage, med def bonus, chance for crit. hit [double damage], chance to wound [continuous damage to enemy on each turn, usually equal or less than item damage value])

One-handed Longsword (Medium damage, low dex penalty)
Two-Handed Longsword (High damage, medium dex penalty, can't use shield when equipped)
Claymore Sword (Very High damage, high dex penalty, can't use shield when equipped)
Barbarian's Claymore (Extreme damage, very high dex penalty, medium chance for crit. hit, very high chance to wound, can't use shield when equipped)

Axes, Spears, War Hammers, and Polearms:

Hand Axe (Medium damage, medium dex bonus, high def penalty, chance for two attacks per turn)
Woodsmans Axe (High damage, medium dex penalty, medium def penalty, medium chance for crit. hit, high chance to wound, can't use shield while equipped)
Battle Axe (Very high damage, high dex penalty, medium def penalty, high chance for crit. hit, very high chance to wound, can't use shield when equipped.)

While using spears or poleaxes char. cannot use a shield (except when noted below)
Spear heads can also be individual items that can be interchanged for new and better spear heads.

Pike (Low damage, high chance of wounding, medium def bonus, high dex penalty, medium chance to wound, can equip a shield, very high chance of being snapped by enemy [If the enemy snaps a spear, the character must try to run, the spear is altered in inventory accordingly and cannot be equipped, but can be sold to recoup a percentage of the cost at random.])
Spear (Bronze Head) (Medium damage, med def bonus, high dex penalty, med-high chance to wound, medium chance for crit. hit, high chance of being snapped by enemy)
Spear (Steel Head) (High damage, med def bonus, high dex penalty, very high chance to wound, high chance for crit. hit, low chance of being snapped by enemy)
Spear (Mithril Head) (Extreme damage, very high chance to wound, very high chance of a critical hit, high def bonus, no dex penalty, very low chance of being snapped, med chance for magic damage, EXTREMELY RARE)
Snapped Spear (cannot be equipped, can be sold in town for 30-60% of value of non-snapped spear of same type [percentage determined at random])

A polearm is a hollow steel shaft with a bladed head attached and a counterweight on the other end. Polearms cannot be snapped.

Militia Polearm (High damage, high dex penalty, medium def bonus, high chance to wound, very high chance for crit. hit)
Conscript Polearm (High damage, medium dex penalty, medium def bonus, very high chance to wound, high chance for crit. hit)
Dragooneer Polearm (Very high damage, low dex penalty, high chance to stun, high chance to wound)
Legionary Polearm (Medium damage, low chance to stun, extreme chance to wound, extreme chance for crit. hit)

A war hammer is just what it says, a heavy, one or two handed hammer with a blunt striking end for attack, and a scythe shaped pointed end for piercing armor. As such, war hammers are EXTREMELY effective against any monster or player with armor. If the armor piercing attack succeeds, it will cause massive damage and wound the enemy. Armor piercing attacks will be determined at random as with other modifiers (i.e. poison, wounding, crit. hit....etc.).

Peasants Hammer (High damage, high dex penalty, high chance to stun, Medium chance for armor pierce, cannot equip shield)
Legionnaires War Hammer (High damage, medium dex penalty, high def penalty, very high chance to stun, very high chance for armor pierce, extreme chance for wound, can equip shield)
Centurion's War Hammer (Very high damage, very high dex penalty, very high def penalty, very high chance to stun, high chance for armor pierce, cannot equip shield)
Chieftan's War Hammer (Extreme damage, extreme dex penalty, high def bonus, extreme chance to stun, certain chance to wound, extreme chance to armor pierce, cannot equip shield, EXTREMELY RARE).

Up next: Armor and Shields, and after that Jewels. :D

I'm new here. Is Scourge a remake of DK or a brand new game?

It's a brand new game written from scratch, but it has a similar style to DK. (Explore, fight, gain experience, buy stuff, etc.)

Nice! How far into development are you into the project? Is the Alpha version stable and how long to wait for an actual release of the project?

This thread is for new item/monster name ideas. Please stop polluting it with OT questions, most of which you could have found the answers to by simply looking through previous posts. plzktnx.

Are you going to add abilities? You should give weapons/armour special effects like
Bronze Armor Effect: +10 Atk Vs. Undead
You could add days in the game so for example if the time is around 1:00-2:00 undead get stronger, paladins get an hp boost etc...
I don't think item names are that hard.. just pick a type of material in real life and make an armor set for example iron helmet, iron body armor, iron sword... You could also look in the thesuares for different names of weapons rapier, knife, chopper, scythe, sickle, cutter, blade, two-edged sword, axe, katana, dagger, staves, mace etc... i hope that helpped...
