I'm not really sure why, but I've always been a fan of Matchbox Twenty for some reason. Two out of their three cds have been released when I'm not a fan of pop music at all, but I still enjoy them. Back when their first album came out, I listened to pop music all the time, so I first learned about them through the radio. The first album was good. When their second album came out, I was listening to mostly heavy rock/metal, but I still figured I'd try it. The second album wasn't so good. Now, I listen to punk and pop-punk, and I give the third album a try.
It is good. Much better than the second album, which was essentially the exact same song repeated twelve times. The new album shows a lot more creativity and musical maturity than the previous one. The music is back to "heavy" again - or at least as heavy as pop gets - much like the first cd, and much unlike the second.
The first single from MTYTYA, "Disease," actually isn't the best song imho. But it does represent the general feeling of the rest of the cd. Many of the songs have that "dirty" feel to them, and even the ones that don't have thankfully pulled away from the "Girl Dumps Boy, Boy Cries About It" theme that was so painfully constant in Mad Season.
If you ever were a fan of MB20, I would suggest trying the third album, even if the second album made you want to shoot someone.
