I'm pretty sure that everyone here has already had this conversation at least once, so this will be called 2.0
Here are the specs on the computer I just got. All of you grab a tissue, for you will need one for either wiping tears, or spunk off of your keyboards--
AlienWare Aurora™ m7700 AMD Athlon™ 64 FX-57 with HyperTransport Technology Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional with Service Pack 2 2GB Dual Channel DDR SO-DIMM at 400MHz - 2 x 1024MB 256MB NVidia® GeForce™ Go 7800 GTX DUAL 100GB 7200 RPM SATA
Extras External Wireless 802.11a/b/g PCMCIA Card Creative Sound Blaster® Audigy® 2 ZS PCMCIA 8X Dual Layer DVD+/-RW / 24X CD-RW Combo w/Software VIA K8T890 + VT8237A Chipset(I'm surprised no nVidia on that) 17" WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 LCD Clearview Display with Built-in Camera Logitech X530 Speakers, Sennheiser PC150 Headphones, Razor Diamondback Mouse
Goodbye student loan. Hello, "education".

I'll be using this for producing music and playing videogames. The only reason I went laptop is because I will be using this in a live setting, along with analog equipment--it's a TON easier to transport and setup than a desktop in a DJ booth...
and suffice it to say, it's also more fun to have a laptop that PWNS most peoples desktop

I don't know where the hell you live, but the best computer you could build with commercially available parts(the one I've built here) that is PC cost me 6500... I paid 4grand down, and I'm making payments on the rest... I'm not just paying for the name though, Alienware builds good computers and the case is badass
perhaps the only upgrade I can make is another processor, or something like that... everything is top of the line.

this laptop owns most desktop PC's... it actually owns a g5 as well
it cost way too much, but it was an investment in one piece of equipment to run a DAW(digital audio workshop) that replaces about 200,000 dollars in physical analog audio equipment. I'd rather use a laptop, because I have to take it with me to shows. This motherfucker gets hot though...

Im with jamin on this. For the amount you would pay for that you could get at least stuff 3 times better for the same price. Americans and their tech. tsk tsk. And you could at least have a Logitech G5 mouse.

I picked what I wanted on my computer.
I couldn't get the computer I got anywhere else period, therefor I couldn't get it cheaper. AFAIK Alienware doesn't sell barebones laptops, and I've NEVER built a laptop.
I want for what I wanted, and I can assure you, I can do some shit with this laptop that you can't do with a normal desktop, rest assured, I am quite comfortable with my purchase.
what would be different if I went though another company? the case?
I like the case.
next please.

I've always wanted an alienware and couldn't afford one... now seemed like a good time to invest, as I kindof can now. the case was for my own amusement.
thanks for the well wishes, now damnit, you bastards build your dream system and lets have it!
